Despite hiring several Catholics in prominent positions, former President Donald Trump’s policies during his second term have drawn sharp criticism for failing to align with Catholic social teaching. Figures such as Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and Vice President JD Vance may showcase a Catholic presence in his administration, but that presence, appears to serve as a veneer for governance that contradicts core Catholic principles.
This article explores the contrasts between Trump’s policies and Catholic social teaching, focusing on issues like immigration, human dignity, diversity, equity, inclusion (DEI), and the misuse of theology. While Trump’s administration may claim alignment with Christian ethics, its actions reveal a glaring disconnect from the values of compassion, justice, and care for the vulnerable that Catholicism espouses.
